Shortsets Celebrates 10th Anniversary with a Full Week at the Family Wash
Every Night will be Tuesday Night
from November 16-20,
Offering Abridged Sets from 16 artists.
Shortsets, the venerable Tuesday night East Nashville songwriter night hosted by Cole Slivka, celebrates its 10th Anniversary in November with a full week of “short” sets at the Family Wash. From Tuesday, November 16 to Saturday, November 20, every night will be Tuesday night, with Shortsets performances each night from Cole and husband/bassist Paul Slivka and three showcase artists, totaling 20 sets from 16 artists over the course of the week. The final act each night will perform a full-band set, and special guests are expected.
Family Wash proprietor Jamie Rubin will also extend the Tuesday night Pint & Pie Special that accompanies Shortsets, by offering a $10 Shepherd’s Pie and Draft Pint every night that week. The Family Wash opens for dinner at 6:00 p.m. Shortsets starts at 8:00 p.m. Reservations are recommended by calling (615) 226-6070.

Shortsets was inherited 10 years ago by Slivka at what was then Bean Central on West End Ave in Midtown. It was one of the very few songwriter nights at the time, along with Steve Key’s writer nights at the Radio Cafe, to give both emerging and veteran non-country artists a stage to hone their craft. It was also unique in eschewing the in-the-round format favored by other writer’s nights. The concept was simple. Slivka would open each night with a 4-5 song set, followed by three other acts who did the same. Some played solo, some brought a band.
Shortsets moved to The Family Wash in early 2003, where it’s held the Tuesday night residency ever since and has become the premiere night for unique and under-the-radar performing songwriters.
